It was a parade for
young beauties. They walked, drove
and jumped through Latvia’s Capital Riga. It was like
raining beauties all over with many models coming up with ramp sessions. The
show saw participants from many parts of the world. Latvian Association of
Blondes head Marika Gederte said that 500 participants were registered
which included a 15 member team from new Zealand,7 ladies form Finland and
Italy. About 32 came from Lithunia.
Most of the participants
were decked up in pink dresses and high heels. It was celebrated as a part of a two day festival
to help bolster the national spirit during the trying times
of recession. The festival was not targeted to be a female emancipation but
rather touted as a tool to return smiles
and hopes in the faces of the country men.
The theme of the show was
Marilyn Monroe and many blondes began emulating the hot Hollywood icon as the later turned a ripe
85 years that year. The particular highlight was a Marilyn Monroe look alike competition which
actually steered a lot of models to get a complete Monroe make over. The funds
received from the event would be diverted to Latvian Charities. This colourful
idea took off due to the severe economic slump.
Marika Gederte, president of the Latvian
Association of Blondes said that she was tired to get up every morning
to only see the newspapers bearing headline
news of business slow down, job insecurity, high costs and other trade
problems. She felt that the country needed something fresh and rejunevating to
lift everyone’s mood and the blonde parade just fitted the requirement
adequately. Many times Gederte felt that
if there was anything she could do for her country and by setting this world record she is just
too proud to be blonde.
The largest Blonde Parade counted to over 500
blondes at the Go Blonde Festival at Riga, Latvia on June 3,2011.
