It would be a dream come true for many kids to see such a large number of soft toys.Usually kids love to keep soft toys because they can get cosy with them and almost treat soft toys as an inseparable companion during their growing years.So setting a world record for having collected as many plush toys would have not only given the kids immense pride but also made them happy with the fact that they could play with so many toys.
Shawsheen Elementary students set a World Record for gathering 5,657stuffed animals .Students and parents collected the plush toys in just under three weeks. People from all over the Merrimack Valley stopped at the school with trash bags full of Beanie Babies, teddy bears, Mickey Mouses, Scooby Doos, a 3-foot gorilla
They donate them to PALS, an after-school tutoring program that teams Phillips Academy and Andover High School students with middle-schoolers in Lawrence.
Previously National geographic kids had set out to create the record by collecting soft toys from hundreds of readers around the world for the past four months.When one of the parents Ms Rachael Combs happened to see the the world record victory of National Geography kids in her son's magazine inspired her to get her son's school also to create a mountain of stuffed animals.And the parents felt pleased to have seen the response from the students and the huge collection of soft toys gathered by them.
Shawsheen students have been collecting stuffed animals every March for the past 12 years. They donate them to PALS, an after-school tutoring program that teams Phillips Academy and Andover High School students with middle-schoolers in Lawrence. The toys are used as prizes. Some of the collection also will go to libraries, orphanages and hospitals in Belize, a small country south of Mexico.
The students were happy that the soft toys collected by them would be given to those many children who do not have any toys to play.
The Largest gathering of plush toys counted to 5,657 stuffed toys and were set by Shawsheen Elementary School at Andover,Massachusetts,United States of America on April 15,2008.
