Largest gathering of plush toys

It would be a dream come true for many kids to see such a  large number of soft toys.Usually kids love to keep soft toys because they can get cosy with them and almost treat soft toys as an inseparable companion during their growing years.So setting a world record for having collected as many plush toys would have not only given the kids immense pride  but also made them happy with the fact that they could play with so many toys.

Shawsheen Elementary students set a World Record for gathering   5,657stuffed animals .Students and parents collected the plush toys in just under three weeks. People from all over the Merrimack Valley stopped at the school with trash bags full of Beanie Babies, teddy bears, Mickey Mouses, Scooby Doos, a 3-foot gorilla

They donate them to PALS, an after-school tutoring program that teams Phillips Academy and Andover High School students with middle-schoolers in Lawrence. 

Previously National geographic kids  had set out to create the record by collecting soft toys from hundreds of readers around the world for the past four months.When one of the parents Ms Rachael Combs happened to see the the world record victory of National Geography kids in her son's magazine inspired her to get her son's school also to create a mountain of stuffed animals.And the parents felt pleased to  have seen the response from the students and the huge collection of soft toys gathered by them.

 Shawsheen students have been collecting stuffed animals every March for the past 12 years. They donate them to PALS, an after-school tutoring program that teams Phillips Academy and Andover High School students with middle-schoolers in Lawrence. The toys are used as prizes. Some of the collection also will go to libraries, orphanages and hospitals in Belize, a small country south of Mexico. 

The students were happy that the soft toys collected by them  would be given to those many children who do not have any toys to play.

The Largest gathering of plush toys counted to 5,657 stuffed toys and  were set by Shawsheen Elementary School at Andover,Massachusetts,United States of America on April 15,2008.

Mass Dance participation

If dance is your true passion then you would not mind the mercury soaring high under the sun's heat.And for these bunch of students and staff at Toronto's Ryerson University it is not a different story.These talented dancers danced their way to break the world record.
 Ryerson dance students performed and led the throng through an original sequence for ten minutes, breaking the world record made on May 16 by 580 dancers in Birmingham, England.The current record in Canada saw 626 students taking part in the dance show at Dundas Square at the heart of Toronto city.So they have comfortably surpassed the previous Birmingham record.
The event was part of the university's orientation week for new students.It has been months of hardwork and coordination  between the students,orientation staff,Rez life staff, and 40 dance instructors of Ryerson Theatre school.The orientation coordinator expressed hapiness at the huge response and turnout for the dance event.They admitted the fact that they were eagerly looking forward to find  Ryerson's name in the world records books.
The Largest Dance Class was set by the 626 persons at Ryersons University at  Ontario,Toronto,Canada on  September 12,2007.

Biggest lesson

Education has been getting its due finally with the world understanding the underlying importance of quality education to lead a good life.More than 7.5 million children, adults, teachers and campaigners took part in the Global Campaign for Education's "World's Biggest Lesson." The world record for the largest simultaneous lesson in history has been broken already – and the numbers are still coming in. The World's Biggest Lesson focused on providing a quality basic education to everyone especially the 72 million children and 774 million adults who are currently missing out. All over the world politicians and ministers went back to school, were taught the lesson by children before being asked what they planned to do to make sure everyone gets a quality education.
The Global Campaign for Education is still collecting verification forms from around the world, but an early count shows that the World Record has been broken. The total attempting the record is at least seven and a half million people. The country with the highest recorded count is Bangladesh, with 2.5 million people taking part in over 25,000 different locations across the country. Millions also took part in lesson in Vietnam and in an impressive campaigning effort a million took part in the lesson in the Palestinian Territories. Celebrities, Heads of States, and Officials took part in the lesson across the world, with the highest profile being Colombian singer and Grammy award winner, Shakira. She sought international attention as Honourary Chair of Global Action Week, both on a media call with UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and World Bank President Robert Zoellick, and as she lobbied Congress with students in Washington.
This helped garner more attention for the campaign emphasising the right of every child to go to school and to make education feasible and affordable to all.Primary education should be made mandatory to everyone.
Shakira who was also a part of the campaign along with Congressional leaders was impressed by the fact that there are so amny young children fighting for the rights of all other children to go to school.The most promising reason to believe that the world will achieve its goals of Education for All by 2015 has been the emergence of strong civil society movement and this mobilization of millions of children, women and men during the Global Action Weeks each year.Especially in women one in every four women are illiterate and this is an alarming issue which needs quick address.The Global Campaign for Education wants to put an end to this injustice and has been demanding so since 2000.
Every year civil society across the world takes part in this week that pressurizes all governments to keep their promises and meet the Education for All goals, which were signed up to by 164 governments in Dakar in April 2000. With the phenomenal success of the World’s Biggest Lesson in 2008  the biggest Action Week seems to be marching on the right part  in its campaign.

Domino Show

Domino Day was a world record attempt for the highest number of toppling domino stones, organized from 1998-2009 by Endemol Netherlands. Together with Weijers Domino Productions of Robin Paul Weijers, also known as Mr. Domino, parties teamed up to set a new world record. The production was mainly organized at the WTC-Expo in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. Mr Weijers  and his team set up 4.5 million dominoes and toppled 4,345,027 dominoes-setting the world record for the Most dominoes toppled by a group.
The current record in 2008  slashed the previous record set in 2006 in which 4,079,381 dominoes were  toppled. The annual attempt was more than a year in the planning and involved 85 students from 13 countries.

Also, 9 additional world record were attempted and successfully broken.

 These additional world records were:

   2. Highest domino climb (12 m)
   3. Smallest domino stone (7 mm)
   4. Largest domino stone (4.8 m)

The aim of Domino Day 2008 was to break ten world records made in previous years. According to the organisers Endemol Netherlands the 2008 attempt required 9,500 sq m (31,168 sq ft) of space, more 250 different types of domino, 300 mechanics, 100 decor pieces, 1500 turning fences and more than 5,000 square m (16,404 sq ft) of floor paint.
The most dominoes toppled by a group was set by Robin Paul Weijers and his team at Leeuwarden,Nehterlands on December 13,2008.However the record event took place on November 14,2008.

Many Birthday wishes to make you feel special on your BDay

We celebrate Birthdays .Some of us do it  religiously by visiting places of Worship  and staying in peace while others  would love to share the special moment partying hard with friends and family.So  it is up to the person to decide in what way he would like to welcome the special day.But looking on the philosophical side of things birthdays also remaind us that we are getting a year older too.However this fact is most often overlooked  by many of us.

Birthdays could be deared to people who are suffering from crtitcal illness as this might be the time they would be counting their days alive on earth.For them life would come a full circle and they would  really  yearn to be  around for a much longer time.It is the time when  the person suffering the ailment notices the special things life offers and cherishes each and every moment and gestures.This ideology would be readily agreed by Shane Bernier  in Ottawa.

The Israeli Embassy came to the rescue of this little boy to fulfill his humble request to the world. The 8 year old boy received five million birthday cards from people living in 36 countries.Shane had been suffering from cancer had a quest of setting a world record  on his birthday.The Israelis with their big heart were touched by the boy's sad story that they got their countrymen together  to write birthday wishes to Shane.The campaign was significantly boosted by the embassy's purchase of a large ad in Israel's largest daily newspaper, Yediot Ahronot. 

 By the time Shane's birthday rolled around last week, he had received more than 20 thousands cards from Israelis, and the embassy said more continue to flow in. Shane and his mother later visited the Israeli Embassy in Ottawa to meet his benefactors. In all, Shane received more than five million birthday cards from people in 36 different countries, though Israel was the only country where government officials initiated a public campaign to assist the boy. He succeeded in setting a new world record for number birthday cards received. The Israeli Embassy was honoured to have Shane Bernier on site to collect the over 5,000 birthday cards that have arrived from Israel to help fulfill his wish of receiving the most birthday cards in history. Shane was given a brief tour of the Embassy before meeting Ambassador Alan Baker and Deputy Head of Mission Amit Gil Bayaz, who presented Shane with an overwhelming number of birthday cards that have arrived from Israel, and which continue to arrive weekly. 

The most number of Birthday cards received on the birthday was set by Shane Bernier with the effort of the Israel Embassy in Ottawa,Canada on June 12,2007.

Longest Live Singing Concert by a Child

Singing high and long enough for success to knock at the doorstep is the mantra Andra Gogan wears up her sleeve.Yes the 11 year old  girl sang for 3 hours ,20 minutes in a concert initiated by Liliput Magazine.In this time she ended up singing as much as 55 songs  to leave the audience enthralled  at her talent.
Andra's mother Dana Gogan felt delighted and told that they were indeed proud of the child's marvellous feat and  constantly kept  looking  to offer the best facilities for the kids.Andra had been singing since she was three years and  her efforts have really paid off.
Andra presents many shows for children and is the voice for radio and Television advertisements specifically addressing kids.She has won many accolades along the way.That apart she has also featured in various discographies and appeared on 11 compact discs.
Her younger brother Razvan who is just eight years old has all the ingredients to become an artist too.He has also featured in many  music shows along with his sister.
A long wat to go for this talented young girl who harbours dream of becoming an actress and performer one day.

Youngest Drums Corps Queen

Cheered by legions of carnival fans and be hounded by photographers and media this  7 year old was the showstealer of a lavish party in Rio de Janerio.Yes we are talking about the young Julia Lira who was Dressed in a sequined halter top and a miniskirt made of purple feathers toparade through the Viradouro Samba group.Julia took up the role of a drum corps queen backed by her father Marco Lira who was also the Viradouro Samba president around that time.Julia Lira, a seven-year-old girl, led the Viradouro samba parade into the packed Sambadrome during the Rio de Janeiro carnival , setting the world record for the Youngest drum corps queen.
This youngster had her cliam to fame amidst wide controveries all over.As some in audience felt she was too young to be exposed in the spotlight and that too get projected in a role that  had a flavour of sexulaity.Putting Julia in the carnival role drew the ire of child welfare advocates who were against a young girl taking on a role normally reserved for sultry models and actresses.So many child rights activists strongly objected the performance of Julia.With all the cameramen and reporters barging in to her within ten minutes she broke down as she could not withstand the mass attention and glare.But she was immediately whisked away from the media glare and and with some pat from her mother rose back on stage within five minutes.
A drums corps queen is required to samba  dance around  in front of a massive drum line.The drum beats would get more and mor eintense with the drum corps queen's faster movements.Fortunately for julia her parents were in tow  for her all through the parade .Julia was happy to do it because she liked to dance.
as Marco Lira who is the president  felt his child had all the right ingredients and the seriousness to be the Drum Corps queen.
The portrayal had a sensitive side as the queen's traditional role in Rio's Carnival was that of a sex muse.Besides unlike other participants who wore scanty outfits Julia had worn an outfit fit for any child of her age  was the view of some members within the Viradouro group.

The carnival is the first since Rio was named as host of the 2016 Olympics and city officials have been working hard to show it can safely stage major events.

Little Chefs in the making

It is cooking time for these young Chefs who wanted to give their culinary skills a try.Bravo little buddies for taking such a good step so early in life.The cooker company Belling has been the reason to steer the kids to enter the usually Mother's domain area kitchen.And this was a wonderful way to inspire kids to get in to the chef's shoes.

 100 UK school children simultaneously cooked a vegetable pizza from scratch during an event organized by Belling.  They were joined by Celebrity MasterChef champion, Liz McClarnon, whose culinary expertise was enlisted to lead the attempt and guide the students through the recipe. Belling embarked on the World Record in a bid to get Britain's kids cooking and to highlight the importance of food technology lessons in schools. 

Liz Mclarnon was excited to be a part of the world record and felt it was a real honour and a novel way to get kids making recipes in the kitchen.And not only that the pizza prepared by the kids looked great and admitted that all the kids did an amazing job.

McLarnon also felt that it was of paramount importance for kids to learn basic cookery skills and this world record would highlight all the schools and the government to stress on investing in food technology.The endaevour would encourage more kids to know basics of cooking helathy and balanced diet.

In the times when most of the children are affected by childhood obesity  by gorging too much on junk food which is actually  not very good for health and would slowly result in the deposition of fats in the body due to sedantary lifestyle.

When kids get to know the process of cooking healthy and importance  of food and nutrition they would get in to the habit of eating healthy foods.so it was important to know basic cooking skills for kids to realise  that it is healthy eating that matters for the body and not just the outward lip smacking taste of junk food.

The kids were also very happy to show off their culinary skills to the world and thanked Liz for guiding them well all through the process.The children were all geared to cook up a  pizza for their family back home after getting totally inspired by the event.St Anselm’s College was also one of the schools to have participated for the event.

   The most beautiful watch in the sale, the rare "Jean-Claude Killy" Antimagnetic Oyster Chronograph, fetched $155,000. The 270 lots took in more than $ 8.5 million.

As officials at Atiquorum felt that as Rolex turned 100 this was the best opportunity to gather the best available examples of Rolex watches and displays so that  a unique  thematic auction could be created for the brand that has been in the business for  so long.

The most expensive Rolex watches was set by Atiquorum for worth $8515260  at Atiquorum's vintage auction 'Revolution in New York,United States of America on April 23,2008.

The legendary Ferrari 250 GTO was auctioned for €20 million (22 Mil $)-setting the world record for the Most expensive car.Only 39 models of the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO model were ever built, from 1962 to 1964.
Powered by a three-litre V12 engine, the 302-horsepower Ferrari 250 GTO can reach speeds of 283km per hour. It was already considered one of the most valuable cars in the world, previously thought to have been worth approximately €14 million. But with the recent record-breaking sale, it seems the Ferrari 250 GTO is even more valuable than had been thought.
And this price race for the famous racing car did not just stop here.The record has some more accolades under its belt as it proved to be a record breaker of the previous one.The previous holder was a 1961 Ferrari California Spyder  sold for a mere 7 million pounds.
The Ferrari 250GTO proved to be a champion not only in the race but also in commanding an escalated price.With the ever green design of these models and the snob appeal brand impression makes this car a force to reckon with.

An ordinary aluminium number plate which is actually valueless is raking the moolah.Yes it is riding high on a multi million dollar note.So now can you imagine an ordinary number plate becoming an overnight sensation only for the number is holds.You can be rest assured that the license plate is indeed not made of any gold or diamonds  for it to fetch such a high price.It is only the  fancy numbers that setting the gimmicks high.
The oil-rich cities of the Persian Gulf are driven by car culture, with relatively few pedestrian areas or public transport options. Vanity plates are a matter of personal pride and indulgence.
The value of a plate depends on a a mix of math and emotional appeal. Normal license plates have 5 randomized numbers. From there, they get more expensive. Prices go up for fewer digits and cooler numbers. Number one is considered the most prestigious.
As the top officials at Emirates Auction quote  that 1 to 10 are the most expensive lot and ten to 99 form the second category.The other side are the numbers like 11,99 which are also most sought after numbers because they carry repeated digits.
A businessman named Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri paid 52.2 dirham ($14.3 million) for the local license plate labeled "1" at an auction at the 7-star Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, setting the world record for the most expensive license plate.Another plate with the number  5 is believed to have gone for 6.8  million dollars.Plates "5" and "7" sold for nearly 10 times the value of the luxury cars they adorn.

At Emirates Auction they make an expensive car sans a prestigious number plate valueless.They feel that the owners would change cars but would keep a license plate for a lifetime.And of course the price the owners to pay for the license plate is more than the luxury  vehicle they adorn.
The previous record was held by Abu Dhabi plate number 5, bought at auction for $6.8 million by stock broker Talal Khouri.
With all the lust and luxuries news there is also some philantrophic news  put in to the pipeline.In the past five auctions alone  $56 million is raised for charity and that has been for the 393 plates.
So this record for the most expensive license plate could also be termed as the most of the money raked in a plate auction.
The most expensive license plate was set by Emirates Auction chief Abdulla al Mannaie for $14.3 million(52.2 dirham)  which was bought by Abdul Ghafour Khouri at a 7 star Emirates Palace Hotel in  Abu Dhabi,United Arab Emirates.
The record was accomplished as a world record at Teheran,Iran on April 30,2008.

 Close to 2,000 students and 200 chaperones worked nearly six and a half hours to lay down a 65 mile chain of pennies on the racetrack at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana setting the new world record for the longest chain of coins.Southern California students who participated in THINK Together after-school programs set a new World Record  by using more than 5,491,200 pennies and  filled  more than 3,432 cardboard trays.Each one was  connected by a penny in the corner, to create a chain of pennies  of more than 65 miles long on the racetrack at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana,California.
The students outdid themselves because in all, they ended up collecting more than 15.8 million pennies or $158,722.63 worth of change. That is nearly 188 miles of pennies.
The Longest chain of coins in Fontana which had  covered a length of more than 65  miles happened to be a world record breaker as the previous one measured a  penny chain of length just 40 miles.
 All of the change collected, including nearly 5.5 million pennies used to accomplish the World Record feat, will go directly into funding activities for the free after-school program which targets at-risk and low-income students. In early February, more than 35,000 students in THINK Together's after-school programs throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino County launched a penny drive, "Miles of Change," to commemorate the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth; and in recognition of the Lincoln Penny's Centennial, the students set out to collect at least 8.5 million pennies, or 100 miles of pennies. Miles of Change happened to be a huge success because of the cooperation of Auto club Speedway,Bank of America,AMR,Brinks,univision anymany other corporate backing who also shared the goal that individual efforts can make a major difference to the society.Like the quote goes'Tiny Drops make an ocean.

Legendary 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, the most expensive car and historically significant Ferrari racing cars ever will ve auctioned on May 17, 2009,  at RM Maranello auction in association with Sotheby’s. The Ferrari 250 TR is not only one of the most beautiful cars ever built, with its stunning pontoon-fendered bodywork sculpted by Scaglietti, it was also one of the most competitive as well. Ferrari captured ten victories in nineteen races from 1958 to 1961, including a class win at Le Mans with Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien.
During an auction which took place at Ferrari's factory and test circuit at Maranello in northern Italy, a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was sold for for €9,020,000, or about $12.4 million dollars-which sets a new world record for the most expensive car ever sold at auction.
The immaculate machine actually sold for a “hammer price” of €8.2 million. But with a buyer’s premium of 10 percent, the official sale price was €9.02 million.
 The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, one of just 22 similar models built at Maranello, boasts an important race history in North and South America. It debuted in the Buenos Aires 1000km in 1958 and came 4th overall before being sold to a US client who raced it extensively in the SCCA championship.
The previous world record for a car sold at auction was just last year and was also set by a Ferrari, when UK radio host Chris Evans paid Euro 7.0 million (AU$12.62 million/NZ$16.16 Million) for a black 1861 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California previously owned by James Coburn.The current Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa has successfully raced the priced tag from the previous record still further ahead.
Both cars were sold at the “Ferrari Leggenda e Passione”, an annual auction of the finest Ferrari and Maserati super cars organized by RM Auctions and held at Ferrari’s test track, Fiorano, in Maranello.

Most Expensive Christmas Bauble

The bauble is one of the most popular Christmas ornament designs, and they have been in production since 1847. Baubles can have various designs on them, from "baby's first Christmas," to a favorite sports team. Many are plain, being simply a shiny sphere of a single color.
A unique gold, diamond and ruby Christmas bauble, produced by high end jeweller’s Embee Jewels of London in association with Hallmark Jewellers, and valued at £82,000 is being sold to raise money for the charity this Christmas.This incredibly intricate piece, which took over a year to design and produce, is made of 18ct white gold, and encrusted with 1,578 diamonds, with a total weight of 18.64 carats. It is surrounded by two rings featuring 188 red rubies and three Roman Rub-over set one-carat diamonds. It is so valuable it is being kept in a steel-framed case surrounded by 6mm thick laminated glass.
The box is surrounded by a high tech microwave bubble, which sounds if it is broken, and even has an extra internal alarm which fills the shop with smoke if it goes off.

The Most expensive bottle of beer, heat-damaged but still sealed, was sold with an account of its recovery signed by Mr Smith. Fierce international phone bidding pushed up the price at Henry Aldridge auctioneers in Devizes, Wilts.It was part of the collection of survivor Richard Kollmer. The brown bottle of Lowenbrau lager was discovered in the wreckage by Leroy Smith, a fire chief on the scene. Smith discovered a total of six bottles and a pitcher at the scene of the disaster.  He distributed four of the bottles as souvenirs to colleagues and one to the Lowenbrau brewery in 1977, where it still remains.
 Smith buried the bottles on site because the police cordoned off the area to investigate the cause of the fiery accident. He later dug up the mementos giving five of the beers to his colleagues and keeping one for himself including the silver-plated jug. Smith's family kept the beer bottle and jug until they decided to sell it.
The current record of the Lowebrau Lager being sold for 16,000 U.S Dollars has smashed the previous one as it was tipped for a paltry 2500 pounds to 3000 pounds by an auctioneer Alan Aldridge. There was fierce competition from telephone bidders all over the world, mainly from the US. Mr Aldridge eventually knocked the item down for £9,400. Flt Lt Reid was honoured for his part in a bombing raid over Germany in 1943. He flew his Lancaster bomber 200 miles towards its target despite having been wounded in two separate fighter attacks. He also managed to get the plane back to the UK after the attack despite the death of his navigator and the fatal wounding of his wireless operator. It's raining Underpants for Birthday

This lad is for sure never going to forget this birthday in his lifetime.After all he has worn and borne in so much on his D day that it  has landed him the title of the  much acclaimed world records.Yes Jack Singer became a popularity sensation by setting the world record for wearing  most pairs of underpants on his birthday.
Usually Birthdays are celebrated wearing new dresses and partying out with family and friends.But this 10 year old boy  had humble dreams of wearing as many underpants as possible to break the  previous world record of 200.He smashed the earlier one of 200 by wearing 215 pairs thus comfortably surpassing the target .
In just 18 minutes Jack ended up wearing 215 underpants  which weighed more than 30 pounds.With the cooperation  and help from  his parents he just managed to stand with the overdose of undergarments which were actually taking a toll on his feet.When they  reached 195 pairs Jack had no option but to lie down as he was finding it tough to  bear the  underwear bulk.
And from there on  the underwear grew bigger in  sizes and  inches  making Jack to stand tall only with the help of a  support.But bearing all the  weight under the waist did not deter Jack of the excitement of setting and breaking the world record.The lad   was extremely focussed  to get it all right on the eventful  day.
His parents could not help stop smiling as they were proud of Jack's achievement.The later is as ambitious as he is also charitable.Instead of accepting birthday gifts  the lad urged  people to donate  money to Marine  Sergeant Eddie Ryan  who  had got injured in the Iraq  soem years ago.

The creativity bud in the Oracle Employee blossomed  as they staged the world record  mainly for raising funds for Leukaemia Research, a UK based charity devoted exclusively to funding research for leukaemia and related blood cancers.
 Money raised through the event will go towards the annual Kids Party. Leukaemia is the most common childhood cancer and thankfully research is working and more children are now surviving. Every year 150 leukaemia patients and their families are taken on an all expenses paid family holiday - paid for with funds raised through charity events held throughout the year. This year's event, held in September, will be hosted by Disneyland, Paris.The longest painting measured 120 meters in length.
And this good act could not have got better as it ended up breaking a previous record by 10 meters.So more goodies notching up the way for Oracle.

That was a good idea to get rid off the stink and infuse fresh fragrance.The staff at Tripsdill Amusement Park might have washed all the socks in the town in their bid to set a world record as well as to do something different.They created a socks line  with more than 10,000 pairs of socks  measuring 2,324.08 meters .It started  at the entrance and goes past the attractions and all the way along the walkways.
The guys were so dedicated that they urged visitors to bring pair of socks along with them.Many travellers were  requested to donate  the  socks they were wearing  .And with all the socks  pouring in it was washing time for the staff. It was a nice sight to watch with the colourful stockings hanged across all over the park.The overall feel looked as if the park is garlanded with  socks of different sizes and colours.
To add some humour in our  discussion was when we discovered that  although most of the socks were in good condition  at the same time some of them had holes peeping too which just managed to slip out of attention.
The  current washing spree of socks  smashed the previous record of 2013.75  meters.So by a good 310 meters Tripsdill Amusement Park has washed away the title from the earlier record holders.

In many parts of India and rest of the world  1st May is regarded as May Day or Workers Day. Lei is a Hawaiian word for a garland or wreath. More loosely defined, a lei is any series of objects strung together with the intent to be worn. The most popular concept of a lei in Hawaiian culture is a wreath of flowers draped around the neck presented upon arriving or leaving as a symbol of affection. But  in  places like Hawaii and Honolulu seem to have a different ball game.In Hawaii and Honolulu they celebrate May Day as Lei day.And they made this day even more special by setting a world record for the Longest Lei.The Lei measured 5,336 ft  in length and stretched for more than a mile  at kapiolani Park .
The Lei was made of fresh tropical flowers  in front of the diamond head mountain.It looked like a line  of exotic flowers.The Mayor Hannemann  applauded the efforts of the departments of Parks and Recreation and the people of Honolulu to have come up with such splendid performance.
Volunteers attached flowers like plumeria,orchids on the section of the lei making it look like a  colourful long chain.After taking office the Mayor had invigorated  the Parks Departments to uniquely define the Hawaii holidays by enhancing lei activities to reemerge as a cultural hub of the world.
The participation for the lei contest only got  better each time.the year 2008 saw a 50 % increase as compared to the 106 entries last year.And each time the responses tends to multiply and this served as  a major encouragement to provide  more variety .The officials hoped to continue this booming participation even for the future.
A lot of people participated to make it  happen and it's another great cultural achievement for the people of Honolulu.

We have read so many records like Longest line of cards,Longest line of tacos  etc but this one we are going to talk about is going to really surprise you.We are going to share about the unusual record of the Longest line of shoes.-National Geographic Kids magazine set a World Record Wednesday for the longest chain of shoes: more than 10,500 sneakers were tied together by their laces, heel to toe, measuring a total length of 1.65 miles.And much to say these more than ten thousand sneakers became  the cause of celebration for the students.
The magazine spent six months collecting sneakers sent by readers, families, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops and schools. Actress Cameron Diaz and members of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team also donated their old sneakers to the project. Assembled by National Geographic Kids magazine, the chain stretched 8,700 feet or about 1.65 miles.The shoes are part of a larger cause to encourage recycling and to reduce the amount of trash in landfills. The sneakers will be sent to Nike's Reuse-a-Shoe program, which recycles the shoes into material that can be used to build athletic surfaces: basketball courts, soccer fields, and playgrounds.
Editor in chief of the magazine Melina Bellows  was very much delighted by the thorough response she received for the project.
The kids gave an overwhelming response to the cause as it benefits the environment.Many communities also got together for a greener initiative and helped other kids to nurture this cause.

The primary focus of Superflag is to bring patriotism, nationalism, and American sentiment back into our society.And to invoke the  national consciousness and feeling of oneness the superflag was hoisted with the help of a bunch of persons taking equal pride to unfurl it.
Superflag can also be called the mother of all flags owing to its alarming size .On the occassion of the flag day the superflag was hung on the cables across the Hoover Dam  to mark the 1996 Olympic Torch relay.

In 1980 "Ski" Demski decided to install a 120 Ft flagpole in front of his home. In July, 1980 on the christening day, "The Pole" flew a 30 x 60 Ft "Old Glory" on her staff.  "Ski" then commissioned an "American Flag" for when the hostages from Iran returned. The size of the flag was 47 x 82 Ft. It was raised for the 444 day celebration on January 25, 1981.This same flag was used at the USC Library for when the former President Bush (I) was campaigning for Vice-President.
 That is when "Ski" decided to commission Superflag I, which was 95 x 160 Ft Superflag's maiden unfurling was at Tampa, Florida at Superbowl XVIII in January 1984. In the same year, the flag was presented at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Francisco, California.
Superflag has been unfurled at Superbowls, in front of the Washington Monument, even dangled from Hoover Dam for an awe-inspiring photo opportunity.For according to Demski the flag represents freedom and that means everything to him.

Saving the environment by adopting the greener path seems to have convinced many of us.Recycling  and reusing the waste has started gaining momentum.However we need to be more collective in our effort towards conservation of natural resources and sustained development.Many non government organisations, private public partnerships and governmental interferences and support shall help in reducing the effects of global warming.

But however for these movements to gain wider acceptance staging a world record event can prove to be twice as beneficial. Malaysian Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association (MVFRA) and the Ue3 Shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur created a a 24.4m X 12.2m flag from 12,866 empty mineral water bottles which sets the world record for the Largest flag made out of mineral water bottles.All the bottles were stuffed with recycled  colour paper of blue,yellow and red.

The Malaysian Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association (MVFRA) aimed to encourage  recycling , inculcate the volunteering spirit and patriotism.The attempt was made unique as it had mass participation.

This step was initiated also to mark  the 42nd National Day celebration of the country.So this was the best occassion to address environment issues and prove to the world about Malaysia's support to nurture the nature.

So the National celebration kicked off by arranging the mineral water bottles in the form of the Malaysian flag containing the colours yellow,red,blue and white.This depicts that the entire country supports and practices recycling,reusing and reducing waste.

The good step did not go a waste either.It took the notice of the World Record Adjudicators to declare the event as the Largest Flag made of mineral water bottles.

Largest Aerial Banner

The Arab Emirates could go to any extent to place  themselves  high on the popularity radar.World record events are not new to them and set breathtaking records to prove their mettel to the world.United Arab Emirates one of the fastest growing nations  has always been high on spirits to showcase their talents and outperform their peers.Falcon Aviation Services LLC took it has a pride to stage a world record attempt to mark the National Day of the country.
Falcon Aviation Services LLC (FAS), a wholly owned company of HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nayhan, Member of the Executive Council, took to the skies over Abu Dhabi on UAE National Day to set a new world record for the largest aerial banner ever flown.

The aerial banner sported the United Arab Emirates flag and was clearly visible from up to 20 Km away .The flag was specifically designed to take the flag right across the capital making it clearly visible to the entire population of the city of AbuDhabi.The flag measured in excess of 50,000  square ft in size  and was towed in to the air by Bell 412 helicopter .The Aircraft  was supplied by Evergreen Helicopters who are the  partners with Falcon  Aviation Services.
The current record has surpassed the previous one held in Australia by IKEA which measured a  mere 47,000 square ft.
The idea for the sky high celebration on UAE National Day came initially from HH Sheikh Sultan and the Chairman of FAS, Captain Salem Al Kayoumi, after FAS had initiated operations to conduct aerial banner towing as part of its growing aviation business.
The Falcon Aviation Service chief excitedly informed that this was the best way  they could celebrate the Nation's Birthday by flaunting the National Flag not only to AbuDhabi and United Arab Emirates  but  also to the rest of the world.

The banner was supplied by Heli Banners, a UK based company who supply Aerial Banners for marketing purposes using the world wide patented Helicopter Overcity Banner System (HOBS) which enables these huge banners to be flown safely over built up areas.  The HOBS system has undergone extensive evaluation by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) who have assessed and approved the FAS aircraft.

    The record breaking flight was jointly sponsored by FAS, Marina Mall and the Abu Dhabi International Marine and Sports Club (ADIMSC). In a joint response the sponsors concurred that this was yet another first for the UAE and they were all proud of their contribution towards developing an even greater sense of patriotism.

As a true testimony to this scouts in Mexico city collected more than one million cans  to create a 100 meters scout emblem .The emblem was touted to be the biggest scouting emblem in the world.It took thousands of Scouts more than 2 days to build the shining Scout Emblem that broke the world Record and helped raise money for charities.
 For the nineth year in a row, thousands of Scouts travelled to the central plaza of Mexico City to 'draw' the fleur-de-lys (the emblem of World Scouting) in aluminium cans.  Scouts from all over the country came prepared to lend their feet to the action. The global symbol of scout brotherhood measured 100 metres and went some way to educating the locals about recycling and the environment.
This record proved to be a record breaker as the scouts broke their own record for the number of cans used to create Fleur  de Lis .Also  they have been  holding this record for the past nine years.
The money received by selling the cans would go for charitable purposes.The emphasis on "learning by doing" provides experiences and hands-on orientation as a practical method of learning and building self-confidence. Small groups build unity, camaraderie, and a close-knit fraternal atmosphere. These experiences, along with an emphasis on trustworthiness and personal honor, help to develop responsibility, character, self-reliance, self-confidence, reliability, and readiness; which eventually lead to collaboration and leadership. A program with a variety of progressive and attractive activities expands a Scout's horizon and bonds the Scout even more to the group. Activities and games provide an enjoyable way to develop skills such as dexterity. In an outdoor setting, they also provide contact with the natural environment.

Largest Advertising Hoarding

Betting could not have got better than this.Online betting company Betfair has created the Largest Advertising  hoarding which can  be best viewed  from the air.The hoarding was located near the Vienna airport.As the Euro 2008 football championship enters the quarter finals stage, online betting exchange Betfair has made its own mark on the tournament
Football fans flying into the Vienna's International Airport could see the advertisement   which covers an area of more than fifty football pitches.The advertisement hoarding read out the slogan'no 1 for football and still growing'.
 The world's largest advertisement measures 1,380m by 316m, creating a total area of 436,000 square metres.It took nine tonnes of wheat seed, 53,000 marigold plants, 1.5km of cotton netting, as well as rape, camomile, mustard, clover, poppies and grass to create the ad. The individual letters are 44m high and up to 41m wide. The area is equivalent to 62 times the size of Trafalgar Square, or 8.9 times the size of Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadion the venue for the Euro 2008 final.
Betting has also become an integral part of all forms  of sports. Betting gets rampant for sports that garners   public fascination and support.sports like football,cricket that enjoy public craze  has turned very much commercialised due to betting,sponsorship and ad campaigns.
