Damas the world renowned jeweller and an expert in jewellery design and crafting were selected by an Emirates leading healthcare community to create something masterful and unique.The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences was established in 1999 with the objective of honouring scientists from every part of the world who tirelessly pursue distinctive medical research that serves the larger interests of humanity.It is the vision of the institution to be a pioneering institution in upgrading medical services systems at the local, regional and international levels, adopting the excellent world-class standards.
The medallion was made as a special momento for the tenth anniversary of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Awards for Medical Science.
Damas has crafted a coin like medallion from fine silver and plated with 22-carat gold measuring 1m (39.37 in) in diameter and 2.3 cm (0.9 in) thickness.The coin weighs 185.88 Kg and has an estimated value of Dh 1 million ($272000).The piece of art has the face of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum engraved on one side and the logo on the other side.
The officials at Damas were elated to be named as an institution of Calibre to create the biggest coin like medallion .The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences has contributed tremendously towards medical research in the region, in turn aiding ongoing efforts to place UAE as the new health destination.
Several expert technicians worked on emblazoning the image of the Sheikh on the coin which was then buffed,polished and steam cleaned to make it have all the sheen and lustre.
The Biggest Coin like medallion was set by Damas at Dubai,United Arab Emirates on March 9,2009.
