In celebration of the London 2010 Festival of Stamps, Stanley Gibbons, the world’s leading philatelic dealers and auctioneers and holder of the Royal Warrant, have become record holders for having created the Largest Envelope.
Rare stamp company Stanley Gibbons had commissioned a giant enevelope, complete with a franking label, measuring a colossal 32ft 9 inches by 23ft ½inch thus setting hte biggest logo of the postal departmental upright. The envelope was almost equivalent to the size of three full size snooker tables.
The Largest Envelope smashed the previous record held by Algeria which measured 30 ft 3 inches by 21 ft 3 inches in 2009 .As Stanley Gibbons is a leading brand name in stamps they wanted to do something really big enough worth remembering to mark the Stamp Festival. So what could get better than breaking World Records.
The World's Largest Envelope was put together at Great Malvern Primary School by employees from Pendragon, a packaging company in Haysfield, Malvern, and pupils.
Stanley Gibbons commissioned Pendragon Presentation Packaging to create the envelope, complete with an address and franking label. Tullis Russell Coaters and Cartor Security Printing also collaborated to create a Stanley Gibbons stamp for the giant envelope.Officials at Pendragon Presentation Packaging were ecstatic about the task and took it up as a challenge as they felt one does not often get a chance to produce an item of this sort and size everyday. They enjoyed every bit of the making process.
Apart from all that a world record is not something one can do everyday. It is something unique and extraordinary which requires distinquished skills to be displayed to make the attempt memorable enough to seek an entry in the World Record Books.
The Largest envelope would be displayed at The London Stamp Exhibition.
The Largest envelope measuring 32 ft 9 inches by 23 ft 1/2 inch was set by stamp dealer Stanley Gibbons at Malvern,United Kingdom on May 10,2010.
