How about designing own bank card that too with a valid QR code.We are saying this to design the card with coins. Not a bad idea indeed. That was what bank officials and employees of SEB Bank the Estonian arm of the Swedish Bank had in mind. This weekend 412 devoted employees helped to add 53,757 coins to a 20 square meter coin mosaic in the form of a debit card. The biggest challenge was to create a so-called QR code, which is a bar code that works with mobile phones. The world record was associated with SEB's annual summer festival in Rapla county in the western part of the country. The mosaic was created with 46,241 10-cent coins and the 7,516 5-cent coins. The weight of the whole creation was 219 kg.The coin mosaic was made out of two colours.
This feat reminds of the oldest mode of payment was coins.Coins became more widely accepted after the Barter system that did not have the common platform for measurement .Further the achievement also put to test the team spirit of the employees.
The depiction of the bank card illustrates the fact of the fast development of ebanking in Estonia. The electronic mode of payment is considered very user friendly, highly secure and avoids lot of day to day hassles and above all the fastest mode of cash transfer.
The task was to create the QR code that can be read through mobile phones and also proves useful in marketi ng to lead the reader through a website application.
The largest coin mosaic was set by SEB Bank at Tallin,Estonia on June 22,2012.
