A model spade made to look as real as possible so that it does not resemble any cheap reproduction.So Destech Designs in Nazeing,Essex who are the designers for BullDog Tools made the specifications sure and accurate for the spade to look like an exact replica of the real one. That assured them a place in the coveted World of Records.
Assembled in Wigan, the spade is a testament to the capabilities of those who work at the Rollins Bulldog Tools factory, the last working forge in the UK which has manufactured spades and fork of outstanding quality for 230 years.Marketing official Fred Foot at BullDog remarked that the giant spade project was all about celebrating British manufacturing nd showcasing their heritage to the world.
The spade weighs approximately 180KG (28st 4.8lb), stands at 3.610 metres (11'8'') high, has a blade of 598 mm (23½") wide and took 160 man hours to put together. It beats the former world's largest spade by 500mm in height .The blade and the socket of the spade are made of solid steel.
The spade would be toured across the United Kingdom.The giant spade would be be appearing at Kelham Island Museum throughout January 2011.
BullDog Tools felt that this was the best opportunity to prove their over 2 centuries long existence existence in the industry and also projected their pioneering experience in the tools & manufacturing sector.
The Largest Spade measured 3.610 meters in height, 59.8 cm blade width and weighed 180 kg was set by BullDog Tools at Clarington Forge,Wigan,United Kingdom on April 14,2010.
