When it comes to setting or breaking world records humans can try and do anything from crazy to unconventional to only see their name flying high on the radar. And this very frequently comes with a good message as a world record conveying a good message is widely accepted and reaches the media even faster.
The one we are sharing with you is not new to what we have said.It is really interesting to know that inspiring messages spread by making record like a wild fire.
To encourage schools, organisations and individuals throughout New Zealand to celebrate leadership in action and to remember a great New Zealand leader, Sir Peter Blake, more than 30,000 socks from around the country were gathered by the Peter Blake Trust. Now that may seem as the hundreds of pair hung looked like a chain or a hanging red ribbons.
The trust was able to string a line stretching over 3 kilometers with the help of the Westpac staff ,community groups and schools. It would have not been a better occassion to pay their respects to Peter Blake on his 10th death anniversary.
Peter Blake was a New Zealand yachtsman who won the 1989–90 Whitbread Round the World Race, held the Jules Verne Trophy from 1994 to 1997 by setting the fastest time around the world as co-skipper of ENZA New Zealand, and led his country to successive victories in the America’s Cup. In honour of his services to yachting, Blake was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1995, and received an honorary doctorate in 2000 from Auckland University of Technology.
The world record attempt was organised by the Sir Peter Blake Trust and supported by Foundation Partner Westpac, PBT Group, Gallagher Group and Placemakers, as part of Red Sock Day celebration. In the year 1995 New zealanders wore red socks to show their support for the boat during the America Cup Challenge.
Blake's fondness for red socks during his life time was hence chosen to put up the record. The Blake trust which was formed with the support from the Blake family to help New Zealanders who made a positive difference to the planet through environmental awareness and leadership development.
The Longets Line of socks counted to more than 30,000 socks was set by the Peter Blake Trust and Westpac staff at Maarten Hall ,Auckland,New Zealand on July 5,2011.
