Bottlecaps can be of much use to claim your story to fame.So think before you actually throw one in to the bin.Yes and that is exactly students of Sea View School also had in mind.
Students and teachers at the Seaview School have collected 10,714 bottle caps and used them to create a chain of bottle caps .It was really nice to see the little kids thread the string with their tiny fingers through hundreds of bottlecaps.
The school-wide project was part of the school's "Peace and Friendship Day," which Principal Susan Speirs said was the culmination of a year-long character education program for students.
Towards the end of the day their joint effort paid off as the attempt turned out to be the Largest string of Bottlecaps.
This project was started to make the students learn some vital life skills in the form of a group activity.Learning through such a process gets the message absorbed faster in the minds of the kids.
An important quality of learning to make peace after conflict within the class, school and daily lives was a part of the value learning during the course of the activity .
The inspiration to this world record attempt has been the experience of the school arts teacher who had happened to to visit the Noyes Museum. She was astonished to see a 'Trash to treasure' exhibit there. The Trash to Treasure exhibit revealed disposed junk pieces thrown out everyday were being used as pieces of art. That bolstered the idea for the teacher to take this up as a task and to make students collect bottlecaps. The bottle caps are the most unwanted items after you open the bottle. So the teacher cracked upon the idea to make the students collect the bottle caps and thread them througha string thereby instilling them with some value based learning.
It took them several months to actually demonstrate the final attempt. The art teacher had instructed the students to collect the caps on the first day of school itself.
And she took it as a opportunity to make it look like a friendship bracelet by stringing the caps together on the occassion of the Peace and Friendship Day.Thereby students also learn to stay united even during tough times.
The school and the students not only learn new ways to recycle and turn waste in to something useful but also made the school proud by setting the world record.
The longest string of bottlecaps was set by the students of Seaview School at Linwood,New Jersey,United States of America on May 21,2011.
