Ed Jarett has every reason to smile and why not he has proved not once but many times.Setting a record may itself be a tough thing to do but what about breaking records and that too he has broken his own records thrice.
He came up with the tallest sand castle in 2003 then broke the record set in 2003 by superseding that in 2007 and now again he is back with a bang by surpassing the 2007 record too.Ed Jarrett, a Canton resident and director of golf and clubhouse operations at Farmington Woods is on a spree of making and breaking records.
His current record attempt claims a 38 ft ,2 inch sand marvel reportedly the tallest sand wonder ever.
Now that is what you call unprecedented will, determination and of course a powerhouse of talent.
Ed not only used a sand bucket and a shovel but also needed the help of 1,500 volunteers working for 2,500 hours and turning the 1.6 million pounds of sand in to a neatly crafted castle.
Now to silence the shutterbugs we tell you that the sand castle was built to raise funds for terminally ill children and their families. Now that was indeed an act of utmost nobility from the master craftsman Jarett.
The good intentions and all the hardwork did pay results. Jarrett spent the summer building a "Castle to the Sun" to raise funds to benefit Camp Sunshine, a camp on Sebago Lake for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Ed Jarrett's creation at Point Sebago stands 31 feet 7 inches, beating his old record by 2 feet 4 inches.
In 2003, Jarrett built a sandcastle 29 feet, three inches tall, breaking the Guinness
World Record for the Tallest Sandcastle for the first time and taking bragging rights
from Finland. In 2007, he broke his own record, sculpting a castle 31 feet, seven
inches tall and raising more than $100,000 for charity at the same time. Never
satisfied, he now seeks to build a castle at least 35 feet tall and raise even more
money for charitable organizations.Designed to raise money for several charitable organizations, the Jarrett’s Castle
event lists Save Walton Pond, Special Olympics Connecticut, Gifts of Love, New
Horizons, and UCONN Children’s Cancer Fund as its primary beneficiaries.
His insatiable desire to keep conquering bench marks has set his work in the distinquished category.
The Tallest Sand Castle measured 38 ft,2 inches in height and was set by Ed Jarrett at Farmington,Connecticut,United States of America on May 10,2011.
