A world record attempted to mark the 25th anniversary celebrations of Northern Ireland Child Minding Association (NICMA).If you were in and around Ireland we are sure you might have not missed the opportunity to dip your hands on the colours and be a part of the mammoth art work.
About 6000 children and a few adults decorated a giant 22,496.5sq ft (2,090 sq metres) canvas with a central image of a house to set the piece of art as the Largest Finger Painting in the world.
The NICMA particularly wanted to depict a house in the artwork with a hope that it would symbolise home based care offered by the childminders. This was a wonderful and ambitious event and provided the children a chance to get involved in a creative project.
The officials at NICMA remarked that the event required a lot of planning and hardwork from the staff,,volunteers, childminers and children.
The current record had superseded the previous record of the Largest Finger Print Painting which measured a paltry 2,000 square meters and was set by 350 children in Kematen an der Ybbs, Austria in 2007.
More than 4,000 children have already contributed to the artwork, used 1,000 litres of paint and painted on 3,500 metres of canvas during the advance painting which has taken place for this event.
The NICMA got a fitting tribute on their silver jubilee occassion by making a world record.
The Largest Finger painting was set by Northern Ireland Child Minding Association at Belfast Zoo,Belfast,United Kingdom on August 21,2009.
