What better way could
one ask for when you are
offered piping hot stir fry on the
opening day at school .Here the students
were welcomed with the hot fries,
burgers and some good music on their inaugural
day. The school has some great healthy surprises to
offer its students so that they inculcate
the habit of healthy eating and also to promote sustainability.
Dozens of
volunteers led by celebrity chef Jet
Tila got together to cook 4,010 pounds
of vegetables and chicken to dish out the largest stir fry .The thousands pounded recipe was prepared in a
one ton,14ft frying pan . The Dining services chefs
from the University of Massachusetts went on a cooking spree to establish the world record. Holding a monster ‘wok’

over the flames with the help of
a crane.
UMass freshman, volunteer assistant chef Ian Casker
did not expect to be a part of the event of such magnitude. He felt he would only be serving
water to the guests but never imagined a
world record would follow suit. Toon the
executive Director of Auxiliary
Enterprises at UMass Amherst said the UMass
cooking team used fresh vegetables from a student run local farm and canola oil
which has zero grams trans fat in it. Christopher Howland who was the project
manager commented that they were inspired by the previous record of the longest
California roll attempted some time back. According to Howland, the
event was funded entirely through donations from vendors and no meal plan money
was used.
