Laboured the Largest Stir Fry on Labour Day

What better way could one ask for  when   you are offered piping hot stir fry on  the opening day at school .Here the students  were welcomed with  the hot fries, burgers and  some good music on their inaugural day. The school has some   great   healthy surprises   to offer its students   so that they inculcate the habit of healthy eating and also to promote sustainability.
Dozens of volunteers  led by celebrity chef Jet Tila  got together to cook 4,010 pounds of vegetables  and chicken  to dish out the largest stir fry .The  thousands pounded recipe was prepared  in a  one ton,14ft frying pan . The Dining services   chefs from the University of Massachusetts   went on a cooking spree to establish the   world record. Holding a monster ‘wok’ they  suspended the  large pan  over the flames  with the help of a crane.
UMass freshman, volunteer assistant chef Ian Casker   did not expect to be a part of the event   of such magnitude. He felt he would only be serving water to the guests but never imagined  a world record would follow suit.  Toon the executive Director of Auxiliary Enterprises at UMass Amherst said the UMass cooking team  used fresh vegetables  from a student run local farm and canola oil which has zero grams trans fat in it. Christopher Howland who was the project manager commented that they were inspired by the previous record of the longest California roll attempted some time back. According to Howland, the event was funded entirely through donations from vendors and no meal plan money was used.

The recipe for the World's Largest stir-fry called for 800 pounds of chicken, 400 pounds of carrots, 300 pounds of broccoli, 200 pounds of peppers, 200 pounds of green beans, 200 pounds of bok choy, 200 pounds of root vegetables, 500 pounds of onions and 200 pounds of peanuts plus smaller amounts of basil and garlic, cooked in 50 pounds of oil and topped with 200 pounds of Kikkoman sauce. The 2,500-pound stir-fry pan was built in North Grafton by All Steel Fabrication with the drawings and design by Scott A. Civjan, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at UMass Amherst.
The previous record for the largest stir fry was achieved by Wesvalia High School in Klerksdorp and it weighed a mere 1052 Kg. Food Network Chef was also excited about breaking the record and admitted that he could do anything insane  when it come s to food. And this is the second time round he has helped UMass stage a world record as  he had first helped them make a sushi roll measuring a length of 440 ft .Tila always welcomed  challenge and has geared himself to setting another world record idea.
The stir fry was a part of the annual welcome to the UMass Barbeque  which had music and Tshirt  give away  in addition to the record setting event.
The largest stir fry weighed 4010 pounds and was set by UMass Amherst  at Amherst, Massachusetts , United States of America on September 8 , 2011.
