The
Peterborough exhibition hall saw
thousands of guests pouring in. About 1362 people came to have some quality roasted beef for
lunch. No this was
not any party but the crowd had gathered for a
good cause. The East of England Agricultural Society had organized the
feast to raise money for Help the Heroes a charity
supporting wounded service
personnel. The organization provides direct, Practical support to service
veterans, personnel and their families. These people had put their life at risk
during a conflict and now it becomes very much
important to protect their well being.
The east of England Agricultural Society has been basically
formed to promote British agriculture and educate visitors on a
wide range of topics. The Society had taken all the effort keeping in mind this objective and procured
high quality beef which was donated by
local farmers and EBLEX. Over 200 volunteers helped with
the event and ensured that service was quick and slick, with the two course and
coffee being served in less than 55 minutes. Even the potatoes, vegetables and Yorkshire
puddings were donated by our farmer members and the Showground's suppliers Andrew Mercer the Chief
Executive of the Society was happy with the response and thanked the number of people who had
supported in this venture. He thanked
all those who had helped as well as all those who had turned up to eat the lunch. They were successful in collecting
revenues worth over £6,500.
The entire proceeds would go to the Help for Heroes charitable organization.
As
Mercer describes that the entire atmosphere was excellent as it was well
executed and the food tasted awesome. All
the food consumed on the East of England Showground is sourced under the
Society's
Food Direct from the Farm scheme, which means it
is all sourced from local farmers and producers, ensuring the best quality,
local food, at all times.
The Largest simultaneous Roast Meal counted to 1362 persons and was set by The
east of England Agricultural Society at Peterborough exhibition hall in Peterborough, United Kingdom on February
26,2009
