The long Boerewors
are got braaied well
enough to make mouth water for all the onlookers who had come to witness the
mega cookery feat. The seven farmer associations of Mokopane district Agricultural union (DAU) along with singer comedian Saarkie
in tow grilled a 514.5 meter long boerewors. A
complete fusion of food and entertainment to make your evening
celebrations hit the grand way.
The farmer
chefs together with the singer to add more glam quotient brought
their culinary skills to test on the
grilling bar. You might wonder what is the big deal in grilling sausages for lunch or
dinner. You might be doing that rather everyday in your house so it may seem
pretty ordinary. But here the guys were all set to try something extraordinary
and offer them to the old age homes as a token of respect towards the
elderly public. It is important to show to the elders how much we care and
respect them. After all they have been the pillars on whom many of the present youth
have scripted their future.
The
massive boerewors weighed about 420kg and 40 people worked together to put it
on the roster. The current record
of the longest barbecued sausages (boerewors)
of 514.5 meters has smashed the previous record of a mere 321 meters. Charl
Oberholzer, national chairperson of AfriForum Youth, said the entire team was
very apprehensive till the end while tossing the sausages on the grill. As the boerewors were long enough it was
important to turn them without breakage. The team had a couple of close shaves
but were lucky to get through without the boerewors sausages getting
broken as otherwise would have hampered
the chances of setting the longest grilled sausages record.
The
world record attempt was made on the youth day to make the youth realize the respect and gratitude needed to show to the elders of the society. After setting
the record the boerewors were distributed to many pensioners
and old persons for free.
The
longest barbecued boerewors sausages measured 514.5 meters and weighed 420 Kg was
set by AfriForum Youth at Johannesburg, South Africa on July 20, 2011.
