Half a Tonne Pasta sets out to benefit Children's Education

We are sure all pasta lovers in this world would   have a lot to cheer about.  Shoppers can buy a half-tonne box of pasta at supermarkets in Turkey, but not in the world's spaghetti capital of Italy. Too heavy and too big for the shopping trolley, delivery is included in the price. Italy's Barilla, the world's biggest pasta maker, and Turkey's Migros Ticaret supermarket chain teamed up to produce the mega box of penne pasta, which sells for 999 Turkish lira ($560), for charity. The boxes will be sold at supermarkets in Istanbul, Edirne and the resort port city of Bodrum.  All revenues from the sales of the massive cartons will go to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).Turkey consumes 450,000 metric tons (496040 tons) of pasta per year, and is the world's No. 5 producer.
The Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest ways to feed a family, and pasta is one of the major elements of this type of diet. Rich and balanced nutrients with a   low glycemic index make pasta a healthy, delicious and affordable choice, The mega box of the pasta goodies were unveiled in Istanbul.  The revenues from the giant pasta boxes would directly benefit the   children’s education. So a large amount of children in the world who are deprived of their basic right to get education and going to school   for learning and fun would be greatly   advantaged   when the pasta cartons flies on the sales pitch.
Gunes Karababa, Barilla's Market Director for Turkey, Middle East and Africa, said that   pasta is one of the best balanced diet alternatives   to feed families  in the present fast moving lifestyle.  The World's Biggest Pasta Box is the first in a series created in partnership with Turkish retail chain Migros Turk.  However the measurements of the pasta box came   up to 1.54 meters in height   and 1.30 meters in width. As per the World Record norms   the box had to be atleast  ten time s the size of the original product.  Further it had to be filled   with the same kind of pasta  as in the regular box.  Further the ingredients also had to be made as  contained in the standard box.
The Biggest Pasta box weighed half a tonne  and was set by Italy’s Barilla and Turkey’s Migros Ticaret Super market at Istanbul. Turkey on  May 11, 2012.
