Did you ever imagine
that just cooking up a porridge would get you a world record honour.
If no then you could get some inputs
from Mornflakes oats who vouched that they have experienced this for good. The world record for the biggest ever bowl of porridge was smashed on Thursday at
The Lowry theatre in Salford when 171.9kg of the healthy breakfast cooked from
Mornflake Superfast Oats was dished out to hundreds of people. Chef
Colin Rostron broke the existing world best, which was set at 81.2kg in
Edinburgh in 2007, by stirring 27kg of oats and 150 liters of water with a
specially commissioned paddle over heat for just over an hour. The event
celebrated the stage adaptation of the much-loved British TV comedy classic
Porridge. Further it also aimed to
raise awareness of porridge oats as the ultimate healthy breakfast option.
John Lea
the Chief executive of MornFlakes Oats in Gresty Road felt very proud of accomplishing the
record. With more and more people affirming
their love for porridge it seems there is going to be a frequent and long
porridge season. Oats Porridge are a
naturally healthy supplement and the
record in this connection could well reinstate the
fact in more convincing way. Mornflake is
reportedly the eighth oldest company in the UK and the Lea family can trace
their milling roots back to 1675 when they first started milling at Swettenham Mill
near Congleton. The Second World War was a catalyst for the family business,
which remains independent to this day. Philip Lea, father of the current
managing director John Lea, joined the RAF to support the war effort but was
ordered to leave in 1941 and return to the business to feed the nation and
build one of the only non-munitions factories given development permission by
the Government at the time. The Mornflake brand was created in 1941.Mornflake
Oats Ltd employs 300 people and is one of Crewe’s largest employers. Staff and
all the managers at the factory do not have voicemail, preferring to speak with
people in person.
The
Largest Bowl of Porridge weighed 171.9 Kg and was set by Mornfalkes Oats at
Salford, United Kingdom on September 13, 2009.
