A Date with UAE to have the Largest Plate of Dates

The Western Region of Mezirah   was prepared to receive date palm farmers from all over the UAE to take part in the Liwa Festival. This   date affair would be proudly remembered by every Arab on   this planet. After all the juicy dry fruit has given the land of Middle East many accolades and also has crowned them with a   world   record. The fourth Liwa Dates Festival in Al Gharbia is set to culminate in a record-breaking event next week with more than a million pieces of dates on a giant platter to become the world's largest   dates   dish. Ahmed Abdullah Al Dhaheri, member of the Liwa Festival Organizing Committee, said the giant plate made of iron would be of the traditional design. The plate would be 10-metre long, two-meter wide and seven-centimeter high to contain more than a million dates. 

The organizers of the LIWA festival   have created a 10.06 meter*2.03 meter steel made  dish  and that has been stuffed with  2000 Kg of juicy dates. The enormous platter  had heaps of the  best Al Gharbia’s   top selling produce much to the excitement  of all the dry fruits lovers  in the world.  It is part of the tradition to serve date in steel dishes and not of porcelain or china. The dates had been donated by Liwa farmers. The plate, fitted with 15 carrying handles, was manufactured in Abu Dhabi and had to be transported to the Western Region by an oversized lorry.  Mohammad Khalifa Al Qubaisi, a member of the organizing committee   said that it was impossible to count the huge quantity piled on the plate but estimated that   it could be one million. Al Hamadi   salesman   who came to the Mazaynat   for fun said that   it was a very special Eid   for them as it reminded them of their origins. About the benefits of more than 50 kinds of dates, researches show that it is beneficial for people involved in heavy work activities and the workers to have dates as snacks because they contain high amounts of natural sugar.

The pride of the Festival came to be known in History Qubaisi  said that it would enable them to be recognized internationally. He expressed happiness  to have set the record and to have done the country proud. The festival is organized under the patronage of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. 

The largest plate of dates measured 10.06 meters *2.03 meters and   contained 2000 Kg of Dates on it was set  during the fourth LIWA Festival at Mezirah, United Arab Emirates on August 1, 2008.
