The Postal Stamp Department could get images of birds to feature them on stamps. Not a bad idea if the department comes up with something fresh as this one.We are sure Mr.Monteiro would be happy too with this idea.
An ordinary man from a small town of Udupi displayed
remarkable capabilities and interest which paved him to
imprint his name in the books of records
. Daniel Monteiro an office assistant
in St Mary’s Syrian College (SMS) went on to collect 4911
stamps on birds from 263 countries worldwide.
We tell you how Mr. Daniel
scripted his story of success. Daniel S/o Late
Mr. Peter Monteiro and Late Mrs. Florine Monteiro of Kumrugodu Village,
Brahmavar, began the hobby of collecting stamps at the age of 11 (year 1973).
In the Primary School, when a teacher encouraged Daniel and his other classmates
to develop any one of the hobbies, the collection of stamps attracted Daniel.
He began by collecting stamps of all types and then went on to specialize in
water birds, which aroused his interest in them so much. Since his house is
surrounded by a river and a lake with variety of
water birds, he took special interest in them. He has been an active member of
D.K.Philatelic and Numismatic Association. He has organized 163 exhibitions on
Philately and 31 workshops on environment and philately till date, and also
actively involved himself in creating an awareness about wild life and the need
to protect the environment.
Mr. Monteiro attempted for the new world
record by organizing a philatelic exhibition titled "Birdpex-2011" in
Brahmavar. More
than 6,000 people, including eminent persons, juries, and stamp collectors,
visited it. Later, he took to ornithological studies, bird watching and
environment protection. He won numerous awards, including 10
international-level awards from Belgium, Austria, South Africa, Singapore, Hong
Kong, Bangkok, Korea, Indonesia and China, 21 national-level and 13 State-level
and from 31 prestigious institutions in Karnataka.
There is some more news coming
in. Mr. Monteiro has successfully broken a previous record for the Largest stamp
collection on birds. He has surpassed Paul Erwin
Oswald who had collected a paltry 2,166 stamps.
The
Largest Collection of stamps featuring birds counted to 4911 and
was set by Daniel Monteiro at Udupi ,Mangalore, Karnataka, India on May
10,2012.
