This is one of the good examples of enjoying your profession.
It would be really nice to see each person in this world to prefer
seeing the lighter side of life rather than brood and feel that is the end of the road.
Well said but it may be tough for many of us to practically make
it happen. Dr.Val Kolpakov a dentist
from Saginaw is an inspiration for seeing one’s mainstream profession as a
hobby. He has managed to put together a
large collection of toothpaste just for
fun.
Doctor Kolpakov began collecting
toothpastes after reading about Carsten Gutzeit, a German who had collected 500 tubes
of toothpaste. He thought that was a great hobby for a man of his profession,
so he started contacting all his dentist friends, from foreign countries, and
asked them to send him whatever toothpastes they used there. He also started a
website, toothpasteworld.com, and began searching for toothpastes on eBay His impressive toothpaste collection
now stands at 1,800, and includes various flavors, from chocolate, to bamboo
and several alcoholic drinks. The most valuable item in Dr. Val’s collection, is an antique Georgian tooth powder box, from
1801, that he paid $1,500 for. Back then toothpaste wasn’t even invented.
Another interesting item is the radioactive Doramund toothpaste,
dating back to World War 2, when people believed radioactive materials would
help rebuild gum tissue.
About a fourth of
his largest toothpaste collection
is displayed in the waiting
room at the Denture Care Clinic, 1227 N. Michigan.
Kolpakov works there as a denture specialist. Kolpakov graduated from
medical school in Russia and began working as a pathologist and a researcher.
In 1993, he emigrated and worked as a researcher at the University of Michigan. In 2000, he graduated from the
University of Michigan Dental School and moved to Saginaw, where he now
practices. Kolpakov also maintains a dental practice in Atlanta and travels
back and forth. And with the
launch of his site toothpasteworld.com many toothpaste donations poured in for
the doctor as a lot
of people found the dentist’s plans on the net. Some companies were also more
than generous enough to donate their old and new products. The dentist is also
candid about claiming that he has a set of pure chocolate flavoured toothpaste and a
chocolate cream packed tooth paste with a tooth brush a dream treat for chocolate lovers.
So
here is a man who is giving a flavored touch to his profession which has led
him to become in the world of records too at the same time earn accolades
for a life time.
The
largest collection of tooth paste counted to 1800 and was set by Dr. Val Kolpakov
at Saginaw, Michigan, United States of America on March 6, 2010.
