A record-setting line
of tacos at Emory was initiated to raise awareness about sustainable
seafood. In the Dobbs University
Center Feb. 16, students and staff from Emory Dining’s Green Team filled
tortillas with sustainable cod, cabbage salad and salsa. The 260 tacos formed a
line nearly 121 feet long set the world record which was altogether new for tacos itself and
at the same time stressed on the importance of
harvesting fish at a sustainable
rate. This means that population of
fishes does not decline over a period of time due to
fishing practices. Sustainability means to maintain and endure. Sustainability
in fisheries indicate that one needs to comprehend theoretical disciplines, such as the population dynamics
of fisheries with practical strategies such as overfishing through techniques such as curtailing destructive and illegal fishing
practices.
Emory University is internationally recognized as an outstanding liberal arts colleges,
graduate schools as well as South East’s
Leading health care systems. Emory University students
assembled 200 tortillas, 80 pounds of fish fillets, 45 pounds of cabbage, four
gallons of salsa and other ingredients into 121 feet of fish tacos. As
much as 80 pounds of Alaskan cod was used , 45 pounds of organic
vegetables were utilized to make the 260
fish tacos. All the tacos were lined up end to end. The tacos were served
up for lunch to highlight one of the newest additions to Emory's dining menu -
sustainably grown fish. The
record also got a eco drive momentum as it emphasized on marine life sustenance.
Another boost was that no such previous record of the longest line of tacos was
ever attempted before. So this one was a true toast to the occasion.
