A world record attempt is also making a difference in the St. Louis
community. During the seventh annual Iron
Barley's Tomato Fest, organizers build a
giant BLT (bacon, letuce and tomatoes) sandwich that measure 224 ft and 3
inches - setting the new world record for the Largest BLT Sandwich. Iron Barley restaurant on Virginia Avenue hosted a Tomato fest
this weekend. It featured an attempt at the world's largest BLT sandwich. The previous world record for the largest BLT sandwich in the
world was set by the Associated Wholesale Grocers with a 209-foot, 16-inch-wide
sandwich to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
It took 500 pounds of bacon, 20 cases of lettuce,
50 gallons of mayo and 90 loaves of bread. The sandwich was sold for five
dollars a slice. Proceeds from the sandwich benefit the Lift for Life gym. What does it take to smoke the giant BLT competition?
600 pounds of bacon
440 pounds of bread
550 pounds of tomatoes
220 heads lettuce
110 pounds butter
60 gallons mayo
1/4 tank propane for toasting
440 pounds of bread
550 pounds of tomatoes
220 heads lettuce
110 pounds butter
60 gallons mayo
1/4 tank propane for toasting
That makes a BLT that clocks in at
just over 224 feet long and 18 inches wide.
Once the official
measurements were taken, the sandwich was cut into individual portions and sold
to benefit the Lift for Life
Academy. So every year Iron Barley at Virginia avenue keeps coming up with largest BLT Sandwich. They came up with the
longest BLT sandwich the previous year and hence they might have taught to
usher the current year with a larger BLT Sandwich pie. That is the way iron
Barley comes up with more and more gigantic Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomatoes
sandwich.
Lift For Life Academy
will be a challenging and supportive learning community where all students are
valued and empowered to maximize their full potential as students, citizens,
and productive members of society.
The Largest BLT Sandwich
measured 224 ft 3 inches and was set by Iron Barley at St Louis, Missouri, United states of
America on August 24, 2011.
