The Brat Fest Event
was held on every Memorial Day at Madison, Wisconsin by Tom
Metcalfe. Metcalfe was the owner of Sentry Foods located in Hilldale Mall. The
event was initially intended as a customer appreciation event
for people who shopped Metcalfe’s Sentry Grocery but soon the event took to a
shape of a fundraising programme for local charities. Madison’s Brat
Fest can be rightly described as awesome
which is a sum of Brats, music, charity
and Wisconsin the place. Brat Fest is 4 days filled with
music, food and fun in the heart of downtown Madison, Wisconsin. The Fest is all about eating Brats but more importantly it is about giving back
to the community. The Brat Fest is held on
the Memorial Day weekend every year
irrespective of whether it rains or sun shines the proceeds
benefit charities. In turn local
charities help to staff the event. Brat Fest is also about enjoying
good food at great prices while celebrating Wisconsin’s heritage and the people
who make Madison a great place to live.
A total 209,376
brats were sold at that year's Brat Fest on Willow
Island at the Alliant Energy Center grounds in Madison - setting the new world
record for the Largest Brat Fest.
The organizers said that the current record
tops the record set in 2009 by 624 brats. The brats were laid from end to
end and would have easily stretched
nearly 20 miles the previous year. It was a fun weekend for
tens of thousands of people who have two things in common -- helping a good
cause and sharing a love for brats. Tim Metcalfe organizer of the Brat
Fest propounded his own theory to reason
the popularity of brats there. Brats indicate German Heritage and it also says something about their work,
sports team and the end of winter. About
27 years ago the Brat Fest was being conducted in Sentry Hilldale
Parking lot but today is pulling crowds at
Willow Island by Alliant Energy Center. Bratwurst is considered a s the soul
food of Wisconsin.
The largest brat fest counted to 209376 brats that got sold during the fest at Madison, Wisconsin,
United States of America on June 6, 2010.
