The craze for mobile phones only gets bigger and
bigger with the younger generation as more forays into the technology takes
place. The advent of the smart phones and pocket PCs have become the lifeline
of our lives today. About 330 persons of Catherham School displayed themselves
as mobile phones wearing the phone like attire and dancing together. This was just another good way of using the
pulse of the people to do something good for the society.
The previous world record for the largest gathering
of people dressed as mobile phones counted to 275 participants
organized by open mobile and Motorola in Puerto Rico. The world record attempt was organized by the fifteen Sixth
Form students who comprise the Charity Committee at the school, who wanted to
create another way of raising funds.
Every entrant was required to contribute £2. This made the total money raised for charity get accumulated
to a little above £50,000. Eighteen
UK charities will benefit in addition to Lerang'wa School in Tanzania,
Nagydobronyi Református Líceum in Ukraine and Kumbaradi School in India. David Clark assistant headmaster said that
the committee had to put a lot of effort for this event. Many students
were away on trips and tours as they were
promoting the event for several weeks. It was a huge task to get the 330
participants to rehearse properly prior to the final attempt .
Some
of the mobile phone designs were exceptional and covered the range from the
latest smart phones to some very old styles. It was an enjoyable event
and every pupil deserved a credit for making into the world record.
The most number of
people dressed a s mobile phones counted to 330 and was set by Catherham School
in Harestone Valley Road, Surrey, United Kingdom on July 16, 2012.
