Ryerson University
just knows to set the record way. And for a world record they are always in
time to get there. A total of 567 students gathered on campus and shook maracas
for two minutes to the popular Mexican folk song La Bamba.
The former world record for the largest maracas ensemble counted to 407 persons and was set by Manchester in United Kingdom in 2006.This means to say that Ryerson had broken the record by a good difference of 160 people.

The crowd comprised
of mainly first year students. Ryerson University President Sheldon Levy and
Coun and Kristyn Wong-Tam were also their during
the record attempt welcoming the crowd. Each student was handed just one maracas
as they entered the University compound .
They then gathered at the grassy square shaking their maracas while the music
played in the background.
The university's orientation crew then got everyone pumped up
with a few cheers and demonstrated the musical piece that the participants had
to play with their maracas. Ari
Lyon, a fourth-year Arts and Contemporary Studies student, led the
demonstration by singing a few bars from La Bamba and encouraging the crowd to
sing along with him and shake their maracas.
