Smallest Commercial Brewery

Brooklyn now has a really "micro" brewery.

The world's smallest commercial brewery, a room-sized facility with a production capacity of a gallon of beer per batch, will be unveiled today in Coney Island.

City officials will host a ribbon-cutting for the 175-square-foot seaside storefront on West 12th Street for Coney Island Brewing Co., an offshoot of the larger Schmaltz Brewing Company that already makes popular Coney Island Craft Lagers. The new brewing company will draft three original beers weekly to be bottled and sold at the brewery in collectible packaging. The previous world record   for the smallest commercial brewery was set by Bragdy Gwynant in Capel   Bangor, Aberystwyth, Wales, UK, which has a maximum brewing capacity of 40.9 liters (9 gal) per batch, and supplies the adjacent Tynllidiart   Arms pub exclusively. 

Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz and Shmaltz   Brewing Company proprietor Jeremy Cowan were on hand to mark the occasion as well. The world’s smallest brewery produces one gallon of beer at a time  and uses Bunsen’s burner ,hot plates and old-timey mechanisms that cast a Prohibition-style moon-shine vibe over the entire operation.

Owners say their recipes are inspired by the local artistic and gastronomical landscape, with varieties such as a Pumpernickel Bagel Porter, a Red, White and Blue Hefeweizen and a Caramel Apple Ale.

The   beers were sold at the brewery located next to Coney island   Slide Show and Museum. “  It's a true Believe It or Not! how  this tiny brewery can develop such delicious and inventive craft beer," says Michael Hirsch, president/general manager of Ripley's Believe It or Not! Times  Square. "Each small batch captures the spirit of Coney Island." The storefront was made possible by a fellowship from nonprofit Coney Island USA. Although officials said the "World's Smallest Brewery" will operate as a permanent wonder and curiosity in Coney Island for many years, Shmaltz   Brewing is looking expand to a larger site in the summer of 2013.

The smallest  commercial brewery  was set by Coney island Brewery Company officially opened in Brooklyn at Coney island, New York, United States of America on August 12, 2011.
