Largest Cake Sculpture

As part of Qatar National Day celebrations, the Ritz-Carlton- Doha, set  the World Record with the creation of the largest cake sculpture in the world, yesterday. The hotel, the official sponsor of National Day events of Qatar Foundation for Combating Human Trafficking has presented the cake during the celebration at Al Gharrafa Sports Club. The cake, designed in the shape of Qatar, was created by 25 chefs under the guidance of the hotel’s Executive Chef Matthew Morrison. The team worked for  six days  and prepared a 1670 Kg  cake  measuring 8 meters in length, 4 meters in width and 16 cm in height.
Morrison said that he was very proud   of entering the  world  of records. He was also happy to display his culinary expertise   with such a   unique   piece. The hotel’s pastry Chef Khalid  Rashwan  said that  the sheer magnitude of the work  meant  that  the largest cake sculpture  had to be mad e with the participation of the dozens of Chefs  Rashwan also added that the biggest cake they have ever tried before  would  weigh a  maximum of  10 Kg but  this one proved to be too massive and exceeded  everyone’s expectations.
A slew of World record guidelines had to be followed  for preparing the largest cake sculpture. First, the sculpture had to depict a recognizable subject or image and not simply a decorated cake; it had to be made entirely of cake, frosting, fondant and edible elements without an internal support structure, and though multiple pieces were used, the final sculpture, once frosted, had to appear continuous or "3-dimensional".
The  previous World Record for the largest cake sculpture was 5.17m-long, 2.67m-wide and was set in Zirndorf, Germany.
The largest cake sculpture weighed 1670 Kg and measured 8m*4m*16cm and was set by 25 Chefs of  Ritz Carlton Hotel  at Doha, Qatar on December 20,2010.
