The
Dairy Farmers of Canada made a 1,000-litre (264 US gallons) All Canadian
Blueberry Smoothie from 550 liters of milk, 300 kg of frozen blueberries, 150 liters
of vanilla yogurt and 35 liters of honey - setting the new world record.
The largest smoothie was made at the Bust-a-Record
Dairy Day celebration. The massive mixture was blended together in a
giant 1,200-litre stainless steel bolt tank by a team of leading Canadian dairy
producers.
Jacques Laforge, president of
Dairy Farmers of Canada said that by Setting the world record with
the All Canadian Blueberry Smoothie was a wonderful way to celebrate the
Canadian dairy producers penchant for purity, their great taste for dairy products and
high quality of Canadian milk.
Amidst a
festival-like atmosphere of cow milking, contests and fun, hundreds of Canadian
milk fans braved the scorching heat to cheer on the record breaking team and
enthusiastically celebrated the win by downing free samples of the world's
largest smoothie.
To help commemorate breaking the Guinness(TM)
World Record for the world's largest smoothie, Dairy Farmers of Canada partnered with Canadian processors
from across the country. MOOV, a Quebec based
company provided blueberries from Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, the honey was
provided by Honey Bunny, a company from Alberta, and the milk and yogurt were
provided by Parmalat in Ontario. Ontario's Moonstone Mechanical provided the
giant mixing tank.
The
'100% Canadian Milk' symbol on dairy products certifies the Canadian origin of
the milk used, as well as its high quality, freshness and great taste. Dairy
products made from 100% Canadian milk are rich in essential nutrients and are
part of a healthy diet.
Dairy
Farmers of Canada (DFC) strives to create favourable
conditions for the Canadian dairy industry, today and in the future. DFC works
to maintain policies that foster the viability of Canadian dairy producers and
to promote quality Canadian dairy products made from 100% Canadian milk as part
of a healthy balanced diet. DFC is completely funded by dairy producers.
The New
world record beat out the previous world record by about 90 gallons. The former
world record stood at a 681 liter concoction of banana, strawberries, sorbet,
ice and fruit juice, made July 22, 2006 by Booster Juice in London.
The
