If
you're craving ice cream, head to Toronto - they just broke the world record
for the biggest ice cream cake - 10.13 tons. It took 14 hours, 100 volunteers,
20,000 pounds of ice cream, 200 pounds of sponge cake and over 300 pounds of
icing and crumbled Oreo cookies to make the gigantic creation. Dairy Queen sponsored the making of the
mega dessert in honor of the 30th anniversary of its ice cream cake. The
previous world record for the largest ice cream cake weighed 17,637 pounds and was set in Beijing. Dairy Queen beat the previous world record for the world's
largest ice cream cake, which was set in Beijing in 2006, by nearly 500 pounds.
Denise Hutton
Vice President of Marketing Dairy Queen Canada
said that almost 30 years and after
having made 52 million cakes posed
a serious challenge to build a 10 tonne cake . Although the challenge
was tough it would result in great flow of funds for the children’s Miracle Network and Hospital for Sick
Children. All in all, it took nearly 100 people over a year to plan for
this record attempt and Hutton expressed tremendous happiness with
the outcome.
Peter White executive of Dairy Operations said that they have
been working round the clock to get the
cake finished and were happy to see so many people enjoy the dairy queen treat on a gorgeous spring day. They felt satisfying
as the funds would directly support
their favourite charitable cause.
