Largest King Cake

For over three generations Haydel’s   Bakery has been treating New Orleans to the finest  freshly baked  cookies, cakes and pastries.  In due course of time   the small window service shop grew   into a local tradition with a national reputation for its unparalleled service and quality. Each year during Mardi Gras, Haydel's ships overnight thousands of fresh, delicious Mardi Gras King Cakes directly from its ovens to anywhere in the U.S. and around the world. And during the Holidays, Haydel's Cajun Kringles   bring a southern taste of the season to customers everywhere.  This time around Haydel’s Bakery decided to use their name and popularity    on a   philanthropic note.
As part of an event to raise awareness and funds for the breast cancer research, The New Orleans Saints teamed up with family-owned Haydel’s Bakery to create a giant cake weighed in at 4,073 pounds that wound around the Superdome which sets the new world record for the  Largest King Cake.  The king cake was displayed at the New Orleans Super dome where it looked  as though  it had filled the entire  vicinity. That is the cake  was so large enough that it went all the way around the dome. The previous world record  for the largest king cake weighed  3000 pounds and was displayed at Houston. The current record set by Haydel superseded the former  in terms of weight more than length.  The outer king cake broke the original record held by a bakery in Houston, and the inner king cake broke the outer king cake's record.
Measurements: 5,300 feet long, 8,688 lbs.

   Ingredients:
   Danish Flour: 4,000 lbs;
   Yeast: 286 lbs

   Icing: 2, 087 lbs

It took almost three full days to bake and  six hours to assemble  it  to make it reach  a  massive 5300 ft.   Set up on 500 tables, the cake was covered in black and gold sprinkles. Haydel’s ' is the official bakery of the New Orleans Saints.

Visitors were invited to buy tickets to win prizes including the grand one, a shiny new Chevrolet truck. By creating the World’s largest king cake Haydel’s Bakery was able to raise  $47000  which was  donated to Susan G. Komen   Cure  for Cancer. Haydel’s Bakery not only created history by successfully attempting the world record but also raised sufficient funds  for the breast cancer research center.
The Largest king Cake weighed  4073 pounds  and was set by Haydel’s Bakery at Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America on September 24, 2010.
