Most number of People Licking Ice Cream

Augustana College, Rock Island, and Whitey’s Ice Cream are partnering to launch a new ice cream flavor and to break the world record for the most people simultaneously licking ice cream. The new flavor, Augustana Viking Pride, is a peanut butter ice cream with fudge swirls and Oreo chunks, and was created to honor the college’s founding 150 years ago.

The college   in Rock island   celebrated  its one and half century old existence  by gathering 2694 men,  women and children  to make a history of licking  ice cream.  This  made the event  more fun filled as all the participants came up for the record  excited with the thought of licking  everyone’s  favourite   dessert.

The previous world record for the Most number of people  simultaneously licking ice cream  counted to  2500 persons  set in  Spain  2009. The world record event was in honor Whitey's Ice Cream flavor called "Augustana Viking Pride", created in celebration of the college's 150th anniversary. 

   The flavor — peanut butter with fudge swirls and Oreo chunks — was in the cups held by many of the hopeful record breakers. For those allergic to peanut butter, there were cups of vanilla. Volunteers handed out ice cream cups to all the participants and substituted  vanilla for all those who had peanut allergies. The participants followed the instruction as they hear remove your lids announcement and then they immediately set out   for a lip smacking enjoyable stint of eating a lovely and delicious ice cream.

Apart from the  members of the community ,college students and staff  there were  more than 60 supervisors  who were not directly affiliated to the college. Kai Swanson made the announcement  in the college during the event. After the minute clicked off, a huge cheer went up and people finished their ice cream in a more leisurely fashion. It was their first taste of Viking Pride and it got good reviews all around. All those who attended were given a certificate for a free dip cone from Whitey's as they left. Volunteer teachers from Longfellow School used clickers to count every person entering and leaving the field.

Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley and Cassie Heiter from WQAD TV-8 served as official witnesses for the effort.
