Shanghai Tops For Longest Christmas Cake

The Chinese yet again proved that they can be just too good at heart. A cake that was more than 1 Km long was   made as a part of a charity event to raise money for the children afflicted with cancer.  If the entire world is smitten by the concept of staging world record   to raise funds for philanthropic purposes then the planet would just get perfect in every way. Every individual should be motivated and equally inspired to   do a   unique task which   shall not only display his or her talent on the world stage but also be instrumental in gathering funds for a noble cause. In this way the weaker   and deprived sections of the society would be greatly benefitted   by the funds so collected which could be utilized  for their betterment . Further world record events also garner much media, press attention. So the  event could get more publicity and in return  excellent sponserors  too.
Eighty chefs of the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel in Shanghai created a 1068-meter-long yule log cake after 24 hours of hard work during a charity event to raise funds for children with cancer. The longest Christmas cake  was given a  vanilla flavor log  and was also smeared with chocolate frosting. The cake was assembled  on 156 tables  all lined up in the hotel lobby. The cake was meticulously prepared  by almost 150 staff members
The World's Longest Christmas Cake required 904 organic eggs, 1,045 kilograms (2,304 pounds) of wheat flour, 209 kilograms (461 pounds) of cane sugar, 633 liters (1,114 pints) of fresh cream, 401 kilograms (884 pounds) of bitter chocolate and 34 kilograms (75 pounds) of vanilla from Tahiti.
The hotel’s pastry Chef Yusuf   Yaran   explained that  they made the sponge and baked it. After it cooled down   they prepared the vanilla cream   which has been spread inside the cake  and then rolled it. Then comes the suspense in the menu of  crafting the chocolate frosting  which they have kept it as a top secret. The frosting was  dressed all over the cake  and then to add up to the decoration they also put some candy  and icing sugar  on the top layer.
The cake was sliced immediately and sold to the public for 2 Yuan (0.31 US dollars) per piece.   Proceeds from the sale of the cake will be used to support the medical needs of four children undergoing chemotherapy treatment in Shanghai. The previous record  stood at 207.8 meters in length and was set by  Philippe Gardette of the Ordre Culinaire International and Jean-Claude Meritte and Nathalie Raphael of CODECOM (all from France), in La Defense, Paris, France.  So the present Chinese record stood victorious   at a thumping margin.
The longest Christmas cake measured 1068 meters  in length and was set by the staff of Shangri La Hotel in Shanghai, China on December 1, 2011.
