For the foodie who has everything comes
the most luxurious mince pie ever created.
The
culinary delight, estimated to be worth £3,000, is currently on show at a
London shopping centre.
The pie
uses a mix of traditional ingredients from recipes dating back to the 17th
century. Added ingredients include the highest-grade platinum leaf, holy water
from Lourdes to bind the pastry and wash all the ingredients, vanilla beans and
cinnamon from eastern spice markets.
Highly
prized ambergris sugar derived from sperm whale secretions has also been used.
And no pie
would be complete without a solid Platinum coin in keeping with the British
tradition of placing a silver coin in a Christmas cake or pudding.
Andrew Stellitano designed a mince
pie worth $4700 (£3,000) and the pie was displayed at the exchange
Shopping Mall in Ilford. Stellitano runs a
food design firm called Astarism and took it upon himself to dress the pie with all the extravaganza in
the food world.
The pastry top was designed on a
computer and laser cut to give it an intricate finish.
The pie is
on display for a month at the Marvellous Mince
Pie Manufactory, at The Exchange shopping centre in Ilford, where visitors are
invited to create their own versions.
The previous world record for the most
expensive pie was valued at £8,195 (then
$14,260) or £1,024 (then $1,781) per slice when ordered by eight guests on 14
November 2005. The pie’s ingredients included £500 ($870)
worth of Japanese wagyu beef fillet, Chinese matsutake mushrooms - so precious,
they are harvested under guard, Winter Black truffles, French Bluefoot
mushrooms at £200 per 1 kg ($348 per 2 lb 3 oz), gravy made from made two
bottles of vintage 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild wine at £1,000 ($1,740) each
and finally the pastry topped with edible gold leaf costing £100 ($174) per
sheet. The largest mince pie was set by
the 1.02 tons pie set by
Ashby –de-la Douch , Leicestershire,
United Kingdom.
The expensive
Mince pie was designed on a computer and cut with a laser. It took Stellitano
more than a week to create such an intricate design of the pie.
A price draw was arranged for the shoppers to take home the pricey pie. Money raised will be donated to the Chigwell Riding Trust
charity, a riding centre for people with special needs.
The Most expensive pie was valued at
$4700 and was set by Andrew
Stellitano at Exchange Shopping Mall at London, United Kingdom on November 21,
2011.
