Longest Chain of Ice Cream Sundae

Briarwood Day Camp is recognized as one of the leading area day camps in the Philadelphia suburban countryside. Briarwood is under the direction of two very experienced and caring camping professionals. Matt Frankel and Mike Green bring a combination of many years in camping together with a philosophy that focuses on safety, happiness, and a high level of instruction in all program areas. They have a well rounded programme which  has a variety of artistic and  athletic activities. The campers learn to get along in the team, they learn to be leaders, work as a team. The y grow emotionally and intellectually  and retire back to their homes happy, tired , healthy and raring to go for the next adventure.
There was one  such fun activities that took place as a part of the day camp programme. Kids and staff at Briarwood Day Camp in Furlong scooped, drizzled and garnished 314.5 feet of vanilla ice cream to feed more than 500 day campers and staff , setting the world record for Longest Chain of Ice Cream Sundae. The previous world record for the largest ice cream dessert   was   a sundae that measured 39.77 meters and was prepared by kids Club in Brunswick, Georgia. About  42 gallons of vanilla ice cream, 18 cans of whipped cream, 21 bottles of chocolate syrup and four gallons of Maraschino  cherries  went into the making of the ice cream sundae.
About 400 feet of benches were laid out end-to-end on one of the camp's athletic fields. As quickly as possible, staffers transported the sundaes there using vehicles and carrying by hand.  Even more quickly, since sun and heat were starting to take their toll on the now-melting treats, they placed the individual containers along the benches, still working as campers started congregating and receiving instructions.
The kids got some hands on training to actually dish out an ice cream sundae. Learning  by doing makes way for  an effective and smart way to gather knowledge. It develops  the skills of working in groups and  makes the child more confident and self reliant. The child is groomed to handle his own problems and learns the ropes of  self management  techniques. Such  vital exercises taught in groups in camps make it  useful for children to stop being too much dependent on parents for even small things.
The kids concentrated their enthusiasm to make an ice cream dessert which all of them love  to gorge  on a  hot afternoon. The goal of creating the record was not only to  have a yummy snack but also break the previous record. The Furlong day camp is no stranger to world record attempts. They succeeded the previous year while  celebrating their 25th anniversary by holding the “Largest Game of Gaga Ball,” a game similar to dodge ball. The World Record certificate they earned now hangs on the office wall.
The longest chain of  ice cream sundae  measured 314.5  ft  to feed 500 day campers at  the Briarwood Day Camp at Furlong, Pennsylvania, United States of America on August 10, 2011.
