Longest Career in the Same Store

It might have been a special feeling for Roy Goggs aged 80 years to have had the  experience of being an errand boy at his shop in Huddersfield to being owner of the same shop.Truly it has been a long innings for this young at heart man.
He started working  on his shop a s an errand boy in January 1940 when he was just 10 years.Being the youngest of the three sons he wanted to buy a new bike of his own. That prompted him to seek work at this store which made him earn 50p a week. The secret of his long stint in the same shop was because he loved and enjoyed his work every bit. That was the reason that made him stay there on and on.He started off delivering groceries and flowers  around the streets of Crosland Moor, in Huddersfield,West Yorks.
Then in 1953 when his master cum owner of the shop died he left the shop half to Roy and the remaining half to his daughter.Later The owner's daughter was not keen so Roy bought out her share.
Roy has been enjoying his work to such an extent that despite owning the shop for 57 years and of late falling out to competition from other stores and changing markets he still remains to be passionate about his business.Although the going is indeed tough as he is losing out on trade makes him happier at the idea of meeting people .
Further he is satisfied with the extra bit  of money that comes  way ahead of his pension helps him to  sustain his livelihood.Due to his sincerity and love for his work he has won many accolades like the Examiner Community award in 2001 and  got recognised for having the longest career in the same shop on February 20,2010 at Huddersfield,West Yorks,United Kingdom.
