A home away from home. I think this can be probably quoted if
you read down this blog. Yes we are discussing about the 1200 giant sleepover venues organized to raise funds for children emergency fund. The proceeds of the funds
would go for addressing the children's emergencies all over the world. As
many as 40000 children left their cozy bedroom in their houses to sleep at the
sleepover venues to set a world record at the same time to help the affected
children with the funds raised through this programme.
These children shared
a night together
at the venues which is a daily routine for many poor kids around the
world. This one night stand with other kids gave the children participating in
the world record a feel of what the poor kids might be undergoing every day.
The event was organized
by Save the Children organization which
encourages people to get involved in fundraising events. The new World Record holders enjoyed a variety of fun
activities before settling down for the night. Groups of young people slept out
at a number of 'special sleepover venues' across the UK including: The London
Dungeon; Save the Children Head Quarters in Farringdon, Lord's Cricket Ground,
Weymouth Sea Life Centre , The Museum of Naval Firepower at Gosport
York Dungeons National Railway Museum, Iron
Bridge Gorge.
All
the money raised for Save the Children
would go
towards the charity's initiative Children Emergency Fund (CEF). The CEF means the charity is able to respond
immediately to an emergency. Having the funds in place before an emergency
means Save the Children can deploy its team of emergency response experts
immediately. The CEF also enables the charity to respond to emergencies that
are not always in the headlines.
The
Largest Sleepover was set by over 40000 children at London, United Kingdom on
June 23,2008.
